Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. There are 5 main hepatitis types: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis D and Hepatitis E. In fact, B and C lead to chronic disease and both of the types are most common cause of liver cancer. There are different ways of transmission for these viruses, such as consumption of contaminated water or food, through infective blood, from mother to baby at birth, sexual transmission is also possible.
Hepatitis Awareness Day
The World Hepatitis day is an international event with only one purpose, to raise the awareness about hepatitis, prevention of the disease and access to testing and treatment. The first hepatitis day was held in 2008 and July 28th is named as World Hepatitis Day. Today, one in twelve are living with chronic viral hepatitis B or C, and many of them are unaware of their status.
